Battery Components

With the expansion of renewable energy introduction and as part of BCP measures, the demand for battery components is increasing. Battery components, which require long life, high reliability, and safety, demand many properties including durability for their constituent components.
Toray provides resin materials that excel in insulation properties, heat resistance, chemical resistance, and further moldability, contributing to improvements in design efficiency and cost optimization. We support the stable operation of power infrastructure, higher performance of EV batteries, and improvement of energy efficiency.

Prismatic Batteries

Prismatic batteries excel in space efficiency and the degree of design freedom for modules, and are widely adopted in battery components and large-scale energy storage applications. Due to their structure, the contact area with the electrodes is large, making it important to ensure high heat dissipation and rigidity.
Toray's resin materials combine excellent heat resistance, electrical insulation properties, and moldability, making them optimal for insulating plates and case components. Under high-voltage environments, they realize highly safe and reliable module designs while also accommodating thinner walls and lightweighting.

Grades

A675 GS1

This is a material in which heat cycle resistance and long term heat resistance are imparted to PPS resin. The flammability specific to PPS is also a key point, and it is adopted in battery cell cases. In addition, the balance of dimensional stability and impact resistance is highly evaluated, and its expansion to fireproof heat insulation components of batteries is also progressing.

A900 F1

In cases where electrolyte resistance (low elution) is emphasized, unfilled PPS resin that does not contain glass fibers or the like is adopted. As a material that excels in low warpage and flowability among unfilled PPS resins, and also excels in mold releasability during molding, this material is adopted for insulating components inside battery cells.

A510T 35 M

When conductive properties are required for the positive electrode components of batteries, this material, in which conductive properties are imparted to PPS resin, is adopted.

Cylindrical (and Coin) Batteries

Toray's resin materials combine excellent electrical insulation properties and moldability, and have a wide track record in components such as gaskets and insulating components. Toray proposes optimal materials depending on the type of electrolyte, supporting highly safe and reliable battery design.

CM2001 L

This is a PA610 material. Leveraging the advantages of high flexibility, low water absorption properties, and being a bio-based material, it is adopted in gasket applications for alkaline batteries, etc.

A670 T05

This is a material that balances flexibility (caulking properties), electrolyte resistance, water vapor barrier properties, and creep resistance at a high level by compounding an elastomer into PPS resin. It is adopted in gaskets for heat-resistant coin batteries.

1401X 45

This is a material in which high flow and fast molding cycle are imparted to PBT resin. Because multi-cavity molding is possible, it is widely adopted in battery insulating components, etc.
